London African Music Festival Playlist

Today marks the beginning of the 13th annual London African Music Festival. The even that runs for ten days will be happening in various locations all over London which basically means that London will be abuzz with some of the best African sounds and sights. This will be a star studded event that will have people breaking it down to some Afrobeats and Jazz sounds.

To get you in the mood for this awesome event, we have compiled the Ultimate London African Music Festival playlist, featuring some of the big names that will be performing at the festival.

1. Seun Kuti & Egypt 80 – Giant of Africa

Son of the legendary Fela Kuti, Seun Kuti has not only continued his father’s legacy but he has started building his own legacy. Seun will be performing with his usual band, the legendary Egypt 80 who have been in the industry for many years.

2. London Afrobeat Collective – Prime Minister

Dubbed the ‘politicised party machine’, the LAC is a band that channels the spirit of afrobeat into all their performances thus making it pretty impossible to not dance. The band recently released the album titled Food Chain earlier this year and they have continued to display the reason why they are known as the UK’s most exciting bands.

3. Aar Maanta – Go’doomey

Somali-British singer and songwriter Aar Maanta released this single in 2014, yet it still gets the crowds excited today. Aar is known for infusing various genres to create what has been labelled as Afro-hop, a musical pioneer in his own right,  Aar continues to break barriers with his interesting fusion of sounds.

4. Suzanna Lubrano – Paixão

Multi-award winning, Cape Verdian born singer, Suzanna Lubrano released the single Paixao earlier this year from the album titled Vitoria. The single has a very sultry and easy going feel to it, a fusion of R&B and island influenced sounds.

5. Ebo Taylor – Heaven

Legendary Ghanian highlife musician, guitarist, composer and bandleader Ebo Taylor has been in the music industry for over 50 years, yet he is still able to conduct a killer performance that is guaranteed to drive the crowds crazy. Heaven which was originally released in 1977 remains a musical piece of heaven even in the 21st century, proving that good music never dies.
